Do not drink and drive
Pics or it didn’t happen is what this will turn into, but oh well it did.
I needed to get some food. Best place to go for that is Meijer. Since I haven’t been on Hall road that much since I’ve moved to Royal Oak. I thought “Hey, why not go to that one? Get some food, go for a nice drive.” It was a nice drive until I finished the roundabout on 18 Mile and Van Dyke to get onto M-53. Starting to head north on M-53, I see some blue/red lights on smoke in the sky. “Now that is strange,” I thought. Getting over the hill I see now that there are 2 police cars, one on each side of M-53, and a TREE is on fire in the median. I am not talking about a little flame, this tree was fully on fire. This tree had a shadow on it, which as I pull closer and find out that a truck (Dodge Ram 1500 or F-150, couldn’t tell) facing north on the south side of M-53 is on top of the tree, the cab and engine burning out of control. First thought I had was take a picture, if the cops weren’t there then yes I would have tried to help instead of thinking of a picture. I didn’t get my phone out in time before I passed the cop car so the next best thing was to go to Jaycee Park, which was just off to the side of M-53. What I believe happened was someone was drunk, got on the south side of M-53, saw a car headed right at them, freaked out and swerved into the tree. They had some ambulances when I got there later so I believe whoever was in the car survived.
Now on to the next part where I try to get a good picture from the side of the road.
Well as I headed to the park, it took 5 minutes, and another 5 minutes to navigate to the other side of the baseball fields in the dark with just the cell phone as a light. With the police lights and firetrucks in the distance I trucked on. By the time I got there they already had a tow truck pulling the extingushed truck onto the bed. I was too late and my phone storage was full.
Lessons Learned:
- Always have your phone handy, especially in the car.
- Always keep your storage on your phone empty.
- Drunk driver, if you survived, don’t drink and drive.
